Coptic font converter

Turn text typed in old Coptic fonts into Unicode, or back.

Questions

Why does my Coptic text show as English letters?

The old CS fonts store Coptic as ordinary Latin letters and only draw them as Coptic. The text looks Coptic only on a computer that has the font installed and selected. On a phone, in WhatsApp or on a website you see Latin letters. Converted to Unicode, it shows as Coptic everywhere.

Which fonts can it convert?

All the CS (Coptic Standard) fonts, which share the same keys: CS Avva Shenouda, CS New Athanasius, CS Pishoi, CS Copt, CS Coptic Manuscript, CS Copto Manuscript and CS Koptos Manuscript.

It also converts the older Avva Shenouda font (without CS), which puts about 30 letters on other keys. Choose it in the Font menu. If the result looks wrong, try the other font.

Where do the jinkim and the overline go?

With the CS fonts they are typed before their letter. In Unicode they come after it. The converter moves them for you, in both directions, and puts an overline on each letter of an abbreviation so the lines join into one.

Can I convert Unicode back to CS Avva Shenouda?

Yes. Choose Unicode to old font, paste your text, then copy the result. Pasted into Word, it keeps the CS Avva Shenouda font. On a computer without that font, you will see Latin letters.
